Nautical Knocking

Are you despising the scorching heat this summer too?

Well, hello then. Welcome to the club! It’s time we gave a nod to all things nautical to at least feel a bit cooler if not actually get rid of the summer waves.

Navy and white is no doubt one of the finest colour combinations in the history of fashion. Inspired by the 9th century maritime classics and Asian nautical ceramic designs, the fusion of these two neutral colours turns out to be quite a great duo. This classic colour palette is bound to make some heads turn.

I tried styling two different looks for two different occasions, by making them look sailor-esque enough but nothing too costumey. They clearly don’t have any boat imagery (read: wheels and anchors) on them but I did manage to include the finest element which defines sailor fashion. Stripes.

You could easily carry this nautical trend without turning yourself into a Popeye caricature and still look really really subtle. Here’s how:

LOOK 1: DAY OUT

For look number 1, I went ahead to style a blue flared cold shoulder top with basic white denims to bring out that sense of simplicity. I carried a jet-black bucket tote along and kept the look just as minimal as required. With only the golden name-carved necklace and my favourite metallic golden chappals, I was good to go.

LOOK 2: BOHEMIAN

For the next one, the classic white flared off-shoulder top with my periwinkle high-waisted striped pants, made way for quite an appreciable bohemian get-up, it seems. Layered choker, rings on my fingers and that ‘Dream’ engraved bracelet was just enough to complete this look I styled. To add a little bling, I borrowed these super-adorable reflectors from my friend. Turns out, it was quite a good decision.

This was the first time I wore chokers and I must say I’m gonna style them so much more.
